Modest Proposal

    After reading this story I couldn’t stop thinking about it.  The idea that we should eat children is sick.  I thought that the way the author went in to detail about how they would taste really made it seem like it might actually happen.  I thought it was funny how at the end of the story he said that he wouldn’t let his children be eatin but it would be fine for other peoples children.  Sure it is a problem in society when children are being raised and the only expectation is for them to become a theif or a begger, but this is no way to solve it.  The story had a dark tone with alittle bit of histerics. The thing that made it funny was how he was just going on and on about eating children, like it was some sort of business.  I enjoyed reading this story even though it was unrealistic and twisted. 

Social Action Project

   When we were asked to do this asignment it was a no-brainer when it came to the subject.  I chose racism because it is something that can rip a society apart.  I have had first hand experiance with people in this mind set and they are capable of horrible things.  People who make racist coments, threats, or racial slurs can cause destruction to another persons self-worth. I don’t think that anyone has the right to decide if another person is worthy of the same respect that everyone else recieves.  After I started my project I realized that it wasn’t just racism, the same people who were making racial threats were also being prejudice towards others of a different religion or sexual orientation.  This is an equally devistating act. It is one thing to disagree, but to then take that to the level of making someone else feel uncomfortable just for being themselves, is over the top.  This is something that I feel very pasionate about, I think that if children are not taught about the effects racism could have there could be major conciquences. As far as research went for this project it was mainly done on the internet.  I found information on how racism starts, and how it can spread.  I really enjoyed this project because I feel like, by just making my voice heard maybe someone else will have the courage to speak out also.  If enough people do this racism will soon nolonger exist.

British Author project

   For the most part my British Author project went smoothly.  It was pretty hard to find info. on my author Elizabeth Bowen.  There were no books in either the public library or the highschool library by her.  I started out by researching on the internet,  there were quite a few helpful websites that I found.  But when it came to doing quotes I was out of luck.  After doing the presentation I thought of calling the College library, they had two books by my author, The Heat of the Day, and Eva Trout.  Unfortunately they didn’t have the one that I really wanted to read, The Last September. One of my favorite facts about her is that she was born in Ireland, I am part Irish.   All and all it was a fun expeirience.  I learned alot about a person that I really havn’t even heard of  before.  I like how her writing is always based on something that has happened to her, it gives a connection that you wouldn’t have otherwise.
